Week 5: Creating Shapes with Illustrator
So this was my first time even opening Illustrator. I enjoyed reading about vectors and what it can do. I really do like our textbook, "The Graphic Designer's Digital Toolkit" by Allen Wood. For me, I like reading about what I'm about to do and then being led through each step. It's easy to get ahead of yourself and get impatient but overall this is one of the best textbooks I've ever used. I'm not just saying that either.
There's a little wobble in my heart, my spade is too long and my club is clumpy. But at some point I just had to stop and move on. The shift-merge control to make a single graphic out of components is a neat feature in CS6. When I couldn't get my lower right corner to change my pointer, I just right clicked to get them to tilt.
I used photos that I had on hand of my daughter and I. I used characters from the dingbats/wingdings sets as well as symbols from the symbols set. I have played a lot of games and no, I have no idea what the Queen of Poisons, the Queen of Time, the King of Griffins or the Queen of Wings would do. Yes I started from photos of my daughter and of me. I chose not to do the reflection thing because I just wanted one big image on each card.
